About me

I’m Jukka Packalén — writer, musician, and lifelong student of what it actually takes to hold a life together.

I hold an international accreditation in logotherapy and existential analysis, along with a certification in post-traumatic growth and a certificate in Polyvagal Theory and practices. I spent over eight years building the framework behind my book, A Good Life Despite Everything — bringing together Lauri Rauhala’s existential-phenomenological holism, Viktor Frankl’s philosophy of meaning, Internal Family Systems, and Polyvagal Theory into one coherent way of understanding what it means to be human.

None of this came from theory alone. I was born with a hypersensitive nervous system, later shaped further by complex trauma, and I’ve spent much of my adult life learning — first the hard way, and then more deliberately — how to live well despite that. Fifteen years of therapy, a complete change of career, and more training courses than I can easily count all fed into the book this site exists to support.

I’m also a lifelong musician, with fifty years on guitar and bass behind me, including touring and studying music internationally. These days I live in Helsinki with my wife Virpi and our two rescue cats.

This site is where I keep writing after the book ends — real reflections on everyday and collective struggles, looked at through the same four lenses that shaped A Good Life Despite Everything. Nothing here is polished wisdom handed down from a place of having it all figured out. It’s lived, in real time, the way the book itself was.
